Parenting for Connection:
A Relational Health Toolkit
health begins with relationships

Parenting is not only about guidance and structure - it's also about connection.
Parenting for Connection: A Relational Health Toolkit centers the parent–child relationship as the heart of healthy development, emotional well-being, and long-term resilience. This toolkit supports parents and caregivers in strengthening their capacity for attunement, empathy, and responsive caregiving, even in the midst of stress, adversity, or uncertainty.
By emphasizing relational health as both a protective factor and a pathway to healing, this guide offers practical support for building strong, secure, and nurturing parent–child relationships.
About This Guide
This toolkit is designed to provide resources and support for parents and caregivers and professionals working with parents and caregivers to foster safe and nurturing relationships. It offers tools to strengthen communication, increase emotional awareness, support regulation, and promote secure attachment across developmental stages.

Whether used independently or in partnership with providers, this guide is designed to meet families where they are and support meaningful, lasting connection.
Our mission is to empower parents and caregivers to strengthen their relationships with children and youth, promoting healthy development and well-being.

about the project
Parenting for Connection is part of our broader Resilience Through Relationships Initiative, launched in 2020 with support from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration National Child Traumatic Stress Network (SAMHSA/NCTSN). At its heart, this work is about one powerful idea: relationships heal. We know that safe, stable, and nurturing relationships help protect children from the effects of stress and trauma. When parents feel supported, less overwhelmed, and more confident, children are better able to grow, cope, and thrive. This toolkit is designed to strengthen the parent–child connection — because when caregivers are supported, families flourish.
